Living in a shared house works best when everyone pulls in the same direction. These are the simple guidelines we ask all tenants to follow. They are not complicated -- they are just the things that make shared living comfortable for you, your housemates, and your neighbours.
Respect for housemates and neighbours
Treat the people around you the way you would want to be treated. That means keeping noise at a reasonable level, especially late at night, and being considerate of your housemates' space and routines.
If you want to have a party, let your neighbours know beforehand. A quick knock on the door goes a long way and prevents complaints before they start.
Cleaning and shared spaces
- Agree a cleaning schedule with your housemates early -- it saves arguments later
- Empty the kitchen bin regularly so it does not overflow or attract pests
- Keep shared spaces -- the kitchen, living room, hallway, and bathroom -- tidy and usable for everyone
Bins and recycling
Getting the bins right is one of the small things that makes a big difference to the neighbourhood:
- Put your wheelie bins out the evening before collection day
- Bring them back to the rear yard on the morning after collection
- Never leave black bin bags full of rubbish on the ground outside -- this attracts rodents and can lead to council action
- Recycle as much as you can -- if you need extra recycling boxes, just ask us and we will sort it
Reporting issues
If something needs fixing in the house -- a leak, a broken appliance, a heating problem -- tell us as soon as possible. The sooner we know, the sooner we can sort it. Do not wait and hope it fixes itself.
